How to fix VAG COM error code 00526



If you have tested your car with the VAG COM (so you have a Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or a Skoda) and after the check the error code 00526 appears, this article will show you the possible symptons, causes and solutions.

When this error appears the following text will appear in the display:"00526 - Brake Light Switch (F): Circuit Malfunction"


When your car has this problem one of these symptons could appear:

  • MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light)
  • No Brake Lights

The possible causes for the appearing of the 00526 error code are the following:
  • Wiring and/or connections faulty between Brake Switch, Brake Lights and/or ABS Controle Module
  • Brake Light Switch (F) damaged
  • Brake Light faulty
  • Fuse(s) faulty

Possible Solutions for solving the 00526 fault code are the following:

  • Check wiring and connections
  • Replace Brake Light Switch (F)
  • Check / Replace fuses(s)
  • Check / Replace Brake Lights
  • Check Brake Light Switch (F) in ABS Measuring Block
