How to fix VAG COM error code 00522



If you have tested your car with the VAG COM (so you have a Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or a Skoda) and after the check the error code 00522 appears, this article will show you the possible symptons, causes and solutions.

When this error appears the following text will appear in the display: "00522 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Break in wiring / short circuit to positive"

When your car has this problem one of these symptons could appear:

  • Difficulties with starting a cold engine.
  • Starting the engine when engine is warmish or warm, idle rpm immediately is 1200 - 3000 rpm.
  • RPM at idle is irregular.
  • With all engine temperatures seldom idle rpm will vary between 900 - 1000 rpm.
  • With engine warm (90 °C) the engine temperature suddenly drops (70 °C) and slowly comes back to 90 °C.
  • Bad acceleration during warming up.
    • Diesel: an indication is extreme long time burning time of the glow indication light.

The possible causes for the appearing of the 00522 error code are the following:
  • Wiring and/or connections faulty
  • Moisture in wiring harness of G62
  • Engine Coolant Sensor (G62) faulty

Possible Solutions for solving the 00522 fault code are the following:

  • Check wiring and connections
  • Check / Replace Engine Coolant Sensor (G62)
